Artificial intelligence and machine learning has impacted some of the most recent technological developments in recent history. Today we will take a look at a few tech companies and see what they are up to in their course of AI/ ML development.

Let’s take a look around:

At yelp, AI and ML is used to classify pictures. Machine learning can turn this into a simple classification problem and thus help simplify the compiling, categorization and labeling of the images

Over at Pinterest, machine learning is used to curate recommendations and discovery.

Facebook has put in an exciting application of AI by including chatbots in the messenger app. Chatbots use Natural Language Procession to determine a complex algorithm in which the bot can have a completely full conversation with the user. Chatbots are interesting and has a wide range of applications. Some lesser known chatbot functions are : Acting as Companions for medical patients and even helping insomniacs through the night

Over in Asia, Baidu is working on something the company calls Deep Voice, a deep neural network that can generate entirely synthetic human voices that are very hard to distinguish from genuine human speech. Far from an idle experiment, Deep Voice 2 — the latest iteration of the Deep Voice technology — promises to have a lasting impact on natural language processing, the underlying technology behind voice search and voice pattern recognition systems. This could have major implications for voice search applications, as well as dozens of other potential uses, such as real-time translation and biometric security.

Over at IBM, Watson is not only a Jeopardy! champion, but it boasts a considerably more impressive track record than besting human contestants in televised game shows. Watson has been deployed in several hospitals and medical centers in recent years, where it demonstrated its aptitude for making highly accurate recommendations in the treatment of certain types of cancers.Watson also shows significant potential in the retail sector, where it could be used as an assistant to help shoppers, as well as the hospitality industry. As

Okay, enough about the large companies, lets find out what some of the best AL/ML startups are up to:

  1. Data Visor: DataVisor is an AI/ML solution for increasing the accuracy of fraud detection on a platform level. It has a dynamic (evolving) database of over 4.2 billion user accounts from all over the world. With the help of this data and proprietary unsupervised machine learning models, DataVisor delivers real-time learning with high-value results. It detects fraud before it’s done, by tapping into subtle data patterns that a human, or a traditional system, wouldn’t notice. DataVisor customers are mostly financial services, e-commerce platforms, marketplaces, and social platforms — companies that need protection against financial mishaps and reputational damage.
  2. Savvie: is a unique AI-based startup that supports bakeries and cafe owners in improving their bottom line. This is done by taking into account huge banks of historical data that recommend actions that the owners can execute to deflect predictable hits to the bottom line. Moreover, given the current situation that has highly impacted the food industry, bakery and cafe owners can remodel their business strategies based on the data-driven patterns and insights that Savvie serves through its ML models.
  3. Argo:Argo is playing a key role in building the foundation of self-driving cars. Argo AI is a self-driving technology platform Argo that builds software, hardware, cloud-support infrastructure, and maps to power self-driving cars. Argo is partnering with top automakers to integrate Argo AI with their vehicles. This delivers the unique combination of established automaker’s expertise in manufacturing high-quality vehicles, and Argo’s expertise in robotics and AI. The launch of Argo Lidar with high resolution, long-range sensing, and 360-degree awareness gave Argo AI an edge in the arena of autonomous delivery and ride-hail services.

As you can see, ML/AI brings you almost a limitless range of application. While writing this blog, it has helped me realize that post data science bootcamp, I will have a variety of jobs to choose from, all with similar application but different fields.

Right now I am excited to see what is in store. For my phase 4 project, My group and I decided to make a recommendation system for movies and that project captivated me. It has only led me to thinking more about the applications and expansion of the recommendation systems. Although I may not know what the future holds for my career, I know that I will be entering a field with endless capabilities and a plethora of possibilities.
